Senator Jon Tester has received large contributions from progressive communities like ActBlue

Senator Jon Tester, who largely owes his becoming a Senator to the support of the progressive netroots, will vote against the DREAM Act.  In case you missed it, his office issued the following statement:

DECEMBER 17, 2010

Tester statement on the DREAM Act

(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement in advance of his vote against the DREAM Act:

“Illegal immigration is a critical problem facing our country, but amnesty is not the solution.  I do not support legislation that provides a path to citizenship for anyone in this country illegally.”

The Senate is expected to vote on the DREAM Act Saturday.  Tester voted against the measure in 2007.

Here’s what Markos Moulitsas of DailyKos, major leader of the netroots community, had to say about this:

Markos had also said this earlier in the month even before a poll sponsored by DailyKos was completed on public opinion in Montana regarding the DREAM Act:

Now we have a poll in the field in Montana, last calls are being done right now, to see how Montanans view the issue. One thing is for sure, if Tester votes “no” on this bill, then this site won’t lift a finger to help him in his 2012 reelection bid. We don’t help people who are assholes to innocent kids.

Mr. Tester, you have betrayed the progressive community for the last time.  This will not be forgotten and Project Economic Refugee will certainly not forget your “NO” vote on denying the DREAM Act to our community.  That goes also to other Democratic Senators that are planning to vote “no” and to Republicans as well.  Know this: Latino media will be giving unprecedented live coverage to the Senate’s vote on the DREAM Act.  We will be watching.  Should the DREAM Act fail, mark my words: this will not be over, not by a long shot.
